WPL 2026 Playoff Scenarios Explained: How Can MI, DC, UP Join GG And Qualify For Eliminator To Face RCB In Final

Gujarat Giants (GG) qualified for the WPL 2026 playoffs and will play the eliminator. With one match left, three teams are still in the hunt. Here is how Delhi Capitals (DC), Mumbai Indians (MI), and UP Warriorz (UPW) can qualify for the summit clash. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has qualified for the final.

Gujarat Giants (GG) became the second side to qualify for the playoffs of the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), after beating Mumbai Indians (MI) in the penultimate game of the league stage on Friday (January 30) at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.

  • What are the implications of MI and DC failing to qualify for the playoffs in WPL 2026?If both Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) fail to qualify for the playoffs in WPL 2026, it would mark a significant shift in the tournament’s competitive landscape. Historically, both teams have consistently made it to the playoffs, but their absence could allow other teams to emerge as stronger contenders. This could lead to a more unpredictable playoff structure, increasing opportunities for teams like Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz to capitalize on their successes.
  • How do the qualification scenarios differ for MI and DC compared to UP Warriorz?
  • What challenges do the Delhi Capitals face in their remaining matches to secure a playoff spot?

With only one match in the league stage, which will take place between UP Warriorz (UPW) and Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday (February 1), all three teams still have a mathematical chance to qualify.

Only one of the three teams will qualify, with MI having no control over their fate as they have played all their league stage games. Whoever qualifies will face GG in the eliminator on Tuesday (February 3). The winner of that clash, RCB in the final on Thursday (February 5).

WPL 2026 Playoffs Eliminator Qualification Scenarios

DC – The Capitals will qualify for the eliminator if they beat UPW on Sunday, and the margin will not matter.

UPW – The Warriors are mathematically alive, but realistically all they can do is spoil Captain Meg Lanning’s former team, the Delhi Capitals’ party. The Abhishek Nayyar-coached team needs to win by around 156 runs (depending on the score) if they bat first. If they bowl first, they need to chase the total in less than two overs.

MI – If UPW beats DC and it is not by the above-mentioned margin, the defending champion will qualify. If he Capitals win, MI will be knocked out.

This will mark the first season in which at least one of MI or DC do not qualify. Both teams made the playoffs in each of the first three seasons. If either of the two makes it, they will be the only team to make the playoffs in all four seasons. This is the first time the Capitals have not directly qualified for the final.
